Innovative Helicopter Maintenance Stands Heading to RotorTech | But From Who?

All Go for RotorTech 2018

Some big names in rotary aircraft aviation are attending AU/NZ’s biggest helicopter exhibition, RotorTech 2018, this year, including Sikorsky, Hawker Pacific, Pratt & Whitney, Honeywell International, Bell and more.

Adding themselves to this exhibitor list for the fist time ever is hangar safety and height access company SafeSmart Aviation . As a specialized division of parent company SafeSmart Access, SafeSmart Aviation are focused on bringing added safety for those who work at height on and around aircraft. SafeSmart Aviation also have a more MRO-focused approach to providing pre-sales knowledge to maintenance operators who are looking to add safety and efficiency to the hangar or ramp.

SafeSmart Aviation have designed and manufactured customized aluminum platforms that perfectly fit the contours of helicopters all around the world. And for some big clients, too – Sikorsky, US Army , Westpac Rescue, US Marine Corps, STARS Canada, just to name a handful.
SafeSmart Aviation’s Alf Dartnall is looking forward to the event.

“With the increase of regulatory compliance in aviation, regarding fall protection in particular for mechanics and technicians, we are seeing an increase in demand for better ways to access aircraft for MRO activities in general,” says Alf.

“Standard ladders are now giving way to more specialised stairs and platforms that get a person up close to where they need to work without the risk of falling. Additionally, we take the cumbersome motorized element out of manoeuvring this type of GSE around; MROs are finding our aluminum products easy to reposition by hand.”

Alf also sees potential growth in the rotary market.

“Compared to fixed-wing, helicopters have even less room on which to stand during maintenance procedures. Everything is narrow, from tail booms to engine housings. Our products add edge protection as well as a larger more stable standing area, so techs have a hand free for tools and more. We’re looking forward to discussing our capabilities with other exhibitors at RotorTech.”
