The company was formed in 1994 through the merger of Northrop Corporation and Grumman Aerospace, and carries the legacies of numerous other companies like Westinghouse Electric and Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical.

Historically, key products from its predecessor companies include Grumman’s Lunar Module and Teledyne Ryan’s Spirit of St. Louis. Northrop Grumman developed the B-2 Spirit strategic bomber. Current operations are divided into Aeronautics Systems, Defense Systems, Mission Systems, and Space Systems, focusing on domains including land, sea, air, space, and cyber. The company was the primary contractor for the James Webb Space Telescope.
