E-2C/D Hawkeye

The E-2 Hawkeye is an airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft, with the E-2C and E-2D Advanced Hawkeye variants representing its long production history. Developed by Grumman, the E-2 series first flew on October 21, 1960, and was introduced in January 1964. It is famous for having the longest production run of any carrier-based aircraft, evolving from a defense platform for carrier battle groups to a cutting-edge system capable of identifying and deterring threats across all environments. The E-2D, the fourth variant, is currently replacing the E-2C, incorporating advanced technology for extended surveillance durations.

The manufacturer, Northrop Grumman Corporation, is a major American aerospace and defense technology giant. The company was formed in 1994 through the merger of Northrop Corporation and Grumman Aerospace. Grumman Aerospace was the original builder of the Hawkeye. Northrop Corporation itself was founded in 1939 as Northrop Aircraft, Inc. The company continues to perform crucial software and hardware modifications for the E-2D program.
