Hughes Helicopters

Hughes Helicopters began as a unit of Hughes Aircraft in 1947. It later became part of the Hughes Tool Company and then Hughes Helicopters, Inc. The company was acquired by McDonnell Douglas in 1984, renamed McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems, and eventually became MD Helicopters in 1999.

Historical products include the successful Hughes 269/300 light utility helicopter, the Hughes OH-6 Cayuse (a light observation helicopter), its civilian version the Hughes 500, and the Hughes AH-64 Apache attack helicopter. While the original Hughes Helicopters no longer exists, the designs are still produced by successor companies like MD Helicopters (MD 500 series) and Boeing Rotorcraft Systems (AH-64 Apache).
