The Hughes 369FF is part of the lineage that began with the Hughes 369, an aircraft developed from a U.S. Army Light Observation Helicopter contract. Hughes Aircraft Company, founded by Howard Hughes, eventually created Hughes Helicopters in 1955. The original design evolved through models like the OH-6A Cayuse and the civil Model 500, securing a reputation for crashworthiness and a low-maintenance core design. The Model 369 received FAA certification in 1964.
