Q400

The Q400, also known as the Dash 8-400, is a stretched and improved turboprop regional airliner. Its lineage traces back to the De Havilland Canada Dash 8 series. De Havilland Canada originally manufactured the Dash 8, but the program was later taken over by Bombardier Aerospace from 1992 to 2019, where the Q400 variant was introduced. Production was eventually acquired and resumed by a revived De Havilland Canada in 2019.

The Q400 is distinguished as the highest capacity turboprop on the market, seating up to 90 passengers, and is known for its relatively low unit cost, 40% more range, and 30% faster cruise speeds compared to conventional turboprops. The “Q” in its name stands for “Quiet,” as all Q400s include the Active Noise and Vibration Suppression (ANVS) system.

The aircraft entered service in 2000 and is widely used globally by over 70 owners and operators. Primary users include QantasLink, WestJet Encore, and Widerøe, indicating its common use in regional airline service across various parts of the world, including North America, Europe, and Australia. More than 620 Dash 8-400 aircraft have been delivered worldwide.
