Hughes Helicopters Div - Summa

Hughes Helicopters Division was a significant American manufacturer founded by Howard Hughes as part of Summa Corporation. It is best known historically for producing a variety of rotorcraft, particularly military and light utility helicopters.

Historical Products: Famous products include the Hughes OH-6 Cayuse (a light observation helicopter), the Hughes 500 series (the civilian variant of the Cayuse), and the Hughes AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.

Current Products: Hughes Helicopters no longer exists as a standalone entity; it was acquired by McDonnell Douglas in 1984, which subsequently merged with Boeing. The most famous product developed by Hughes, the AH-64 Apache, continues to be manufactured and upgraded by Boeing. The civilian helicopter lines continue under different ownership.
