The Yakovlev Yak-42 is a trijet medium-range passenger aircraft developed by the Soviet Yakovlev Design Bureau. Designed to replace the aging Tupolev Tu-134, the Yak-42 was the first Soviet civil aircraft to feature high-bypass turbofan engines. Its maiden flight was in 1975, and it entered service in 1980. The aircraft featured a T-tail configuration and sophisticated avionics for its time, serving as a foundational domestic airliner during the late Soviet era.
The Yakovlev Design Bureau (OKB-115), founded in 1934 by Alexander Sergeyevich Yakovlev, is a legendary Russian aircraft designer. Historically focused on military fighters and trainers, such as the famous WWII-era Yak series, the bureau diversified into civil aviation with designs like the Yak-40 and the larger Yak-42. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the organization was reorganized and continues its design work today.
A variety of access solutions support the maintenance of the Yak-42. Modular Stepover Platforms and Super Trestle Scaffold are foundational for servicing the Nose Section (Radome, Antenna, Nose Avionics) and General Access areas. For Wing & Engine Pylon access—including the Engine inlet/exhaust, Fan, and Turbine—Cantilever Platforms and Super Service Stands provide necessary height and reach. The A Frame Aviation Platform is fundamental for working on the Tail Section (Vertical and Horizontal Stabiliser, Rudder). Furthermore, for the Main Landing Gear (MLG) and Nose Landing Gear (NLG), Reach Deck Platforms are key for detailed work.
