YAK-18

The YAK-18 is a classic, single-engine tandem two-seat primary trainer aircraft, originally designed in the Soviet Union. It became a foundational training platform for pilots across the Eastern Bloc and China. Its reliable piston-engine performance and robust structure made it ideal for early flight instruction and basic aerobatics.

Nanchang Aircraft Manufacturing, based in China, played a pivotal role in the production history of the YAK-18, manufacturing it under license as the Nanchang CJ-5. This licensing agreement was instrumental in establishing China’s domestic aircraft manufacturing capabilities. The company, which evolved into the Hongdu Aviation Industry Group, used the YAK-18/CJ-5 as a foundational design before moving on to subsequent indigenous aircraft development.

A range of access solutions can be used for maintenance on the YAK-18. Reach Deck Platforms and Modular Stepover Platforms are effective for accessing the Wing Box and Engine/Pylon areas, facilitating detailed, methodical maintenance on the Engine Body, Flaps, and Fuel Tanks/Pumps. Sturdy Super Trestle Scaffold and Ultraraise platforms provide access to the Tail Section for servicing the Vertical Stabilizer and Rudder. For cockpit and Nose Section tasks, such as work on the Windshield or Nose Avionics, Super Service Stands and Cantilever Platforms offer first-class, ideal height access. Platform Ladder Warthog and A Frame Aviation Platforms are indispensable for general access around the Forward Fuselage and Landing Gear components.
