UH-1Y

The UH-1Y Venom is a modernized utility helicopter developed by Bell for the United States Marine Corps, serving as a replacement for the UH-1N Twin Huey. Bell’s history is foundational to helicopter aviation, with the original UH-1 Iroquois (“Huey”) dating back to a 1956 first flight.

The H-1 program focused on upgrading utility and attack helicopters while maintaining considerable design commonality, allowing the UH-1Y and AH-1Z to share over 84% identical components, including the tail boom, engines, and rotor system. The UH-1Y modernized the design with a glass cockpit, enhanced safety features, and a modern forward-looking infrared system, alongside increased engine power. Though initially intended as a rebuild of UH-1Ns, Bell ultimately manufactured new airframes. The UH-1Y first flew in 2001 and entered service in 2008, with over 160 units built since 2001.

Maintenance access for this helicopter is supported by a variety of platforms and stands. These tools address detailed and methodical maintenance needs across sections like the Nose, Forward Fuselage, Landing Gear, Middle Fuselage, Wing & Engine Pylon, AFT Fuselage, and Tail. Specialized platforms, stepover units, and maintenance stands provide crucial access for tasks such as maintaining nose avionics, accessing the environmental control system, servicing the engine components, or working on the vertical and horizontal stabilizers.
