UH-1B

The Bell UH-1B is a variant of the legendary UH-1 Iroquois, often called the “Huey.” This utility helicopter, designed for military operations, features a metal semi-monocoque fuselage and two main rotor blades. The UH-1B was part of the original production run that cemented the Huey’s foundational role in vertical flight history.

Bell Helicopter was established as Bell Aircraft Corporation by Lawrence Dale Bell in 1935, initially focusing on fighter aircraft development in Buffalo, New York. Bell’s pivotal shift to helicopters began shortly thereafter, leading to the creation of the Huey, which first flew in its prototype form (XH-40) in 1956. Production of the Huey family ran from 1957 to 1975, resulting in over 10,000 aircraft, with 9,216 going to the U.S. Army, including the B model, which saw extensive service.

A variety of platforms and access solutions are utilized for thorough maintenance on this aircraft. Cantilever Platforms and Bridge Decks provide access across the Nose Section for radome and avionics tasks. Modular Stepover Platforms and Ladder Warthogs offer safe access to Forward Fuselage areas, including cabin and entry doors. For the Wing & Engine Pylon section, Super Service Stands and Ultraraise lifts enable technicians to service the engine components, fan, and hydraulics. Specialized trestle scaffolding supports work on the AFT Fuselage, addressing areas like rear avionics and auxiliary fuel compartments, while also providing access for the Tail Section’s vertical and horizontal stabilizers. These access stands ensure all vital sections of the aircraft receive necessary attention.
