The TWIN PIONEER SER 3 is a short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft, manufactured by Scottish Aviation. This aircraft is an evolution of the Twin Pioneer series, known for its ability to operate from challenging, unprepared airstrips. Scottish Aviation, which began its journey in the 1930s at Prestwick Airport, was a leading UK aircraft manufacturer. They designed and produced aircraft like the Pioneer and the larger Twin Pioneer to meet demands for reliable utility transport.
Maintenance access to the Twin Pioneer requires versatile solutions. For the Nose Section, including avionics and the cockpit, access platforms such as the Reach Deck Platform, Modular Stepover Platforms, and Platform Ladder Warthog can be used. These solutions also support the Forward Fuselage for the Main Entry Door (MED), cargo, and lighting systems, as well as accessing the Forward Wheel Well.
For the Landing Gear (NLG and MLG), Super Trestle Scaffold provides a stable, strong base. The Bridge Deck and Cantilever Platform are suitable for reaching the Middle Fuselage and Wing Box Area, including fuel tanks and interior access. The Wing & Engine Pylon sections, critical for engine inspection (inlet, exhaust, body, fan, compressor, turbine, and fuel pumps), can be accessed using the Super Service Stand and Super Maintenance Platform. The Easyraise is ideal for lower access points like the undercowl and armpit.
The AFT Fuselage and Tail Section (Empennage), including the vertical and horizontal stabilisers and rudder, are served by the Ultraraise and A Frame Aviation Platform for safe, detailed maintenance. Overall access is achieved through modular, customizable platforms. A total of 89 Twin Pioneers, including civilian versions, were built, with the last aircraft on frontline duties retiring in 1968.
