The T-6 D, part of the revered T-6 Texan family, is an all-metal single-engine aircraft foundational to pilot training across global air forces from the 1930s to the 1950s. Over 15,495 units of the T-6 and its variants were built, making it one of the most widely used trainers in history. During the Korean War, T-6s were repurposed for forward air control. The T-6 remains a popular aircraft for airshow demonstrations today.
NORTH American Aviation, the manufacturer, was established in 1928, originally as a holding company. After the Air Mail Act of 1934 forced restructuring, it became a manufacturing company, quickly developing trainers like the GA-16, which evolved into the T-6 series. The company later produced iconic aircraft like the P-51 Mustang. Through a series of mergers, NORTH American Aviation eventually became part of Boeing.
Maintenance access is indispensable for this historic aircraft. Platforms and access solutions are available for meticulous inspection of key areas. For the Nose Section, including the Windshield & Cockpit, solutions assist in reaching avionics and the bulkhead. For the Landing Gear, access stands support work on the Nose Landing Gear and Main Landing Gear. Specialized Cantilever Platforms facilitate maintenance for the Wing & Engine Pylon components, such as the engine body and underrating cowl. These platforms also provide necessary access to the Middle Fuselage/Wing Box Area, where fuel tanks and oil maintenance points are located, and the Tail Section (Empennage) for work on the stabilizers and rudder.
