The SAAB 340B is a Swedish twin-engine turboprop aircraft, part of the successful Saab 340 series designed to seat 30–36 passengers. It can also be configured for cargo operations. The Saab 340 program first flew on January 25, 1983, with the aircraft being in production from 1983 until 1999. The 340B is one of three main variants, alongside the 340A and 340B+, and is known for its reliable service worldwide. A total of 459 Saab 340s were produced.
Saab AB, the manufacturer, was founded in Sweden on April 2, 1937, with the initial purpose of developing and manufacturing combat aircraft for the Swedish Air Force. The name “Saab” is an acronym for Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (“Swedish aeroplane corporation”). While the company’s early focus was military aviation, producing fighter jets that formed one of the world’s largest air forces during the Cold War, Saab later diversified into civil aircraft and automobiles. The Saab 340 became one of the company’s most successful exports, building on a history that includes aircraft like the Saab 91 Safir.
Access solutions are foundational for detailed maintenance across this aircraft. Platforms and stands support access to the Nose Section (including the Radome, Windshield & Cockpit, and Bulkhead) and the Forward Fuselage (including the Main Entry Door and Forward Wheel Well Access). Maintenance equipment assists with the Landing Gear (NLG and MLG), Middle Fuselage/Wing Box Area, and critical Wing & Engine Pylon components (including Engine Inlet/Exhaust and Hydraulics). Furthermore, access is supported for the AFT Fuselage and the Tail Section (Empennage), including the Vertical and Horizontal Stabilisers and the Rudder.
