RQ-11 Raven

The RQ-11 Raven is a small, hand-launched, remote-controlled uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) designed for tactical reconnaissance. Developed from the FQM-151 Pointer, the Raven achieved its current form in 2002. It operates using a pusher configuration electric motor and provides crucial intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities. Since its introduction around 2004, over 19,000 airframes have been built, making it widely adopted by the United States military and several foreign forces.

The manufacturer, AeroVironment, has a history of disruptive innovation spanning over 50 years. Founded by Dr. Paul MacCready, the company is known for pioneering man-portable uncrewed systems. Its foundational work in this field began in 1986 with the launch of the Pointer, an aircraft that paved the way for the Raven and other similar systems. AeroVironment has been in full-rate production of the RQ-11 Raven since 2006, confirming its role as a leading provider of autonomous robotic systems for defense.
