R66

The R66 is Robinson Helicopter’s first turbine-powered product, designed to expand the company’s presence into a higher performance segment. Derived primarily from the piston-powered R44, the R66 features a turboshaft engine, resulting in a slightly faster and smoother flight profile than its predecessor. The R66 was announced in 2007, made its first flight on November 7, 2007, and achieved FAA type and production certificates in October 2010. It remains in production today, with over 1,500 units built as of 2024.

Robinson Helicopter Company, established by Frank Robinson in 1973, became known for its commitment to developing highly efficient and reliable light helicopters. The company’s focus on practical design and production efficiency has resulted in some of the most popular private and training helicopters worldwide. The R66 continues this legacy, extending the successful design principles of the R22 and R44 series into the turbine category.

A variety of platforms and access solutions are utilized for maintenance around this aircraft. Equipment such as modular stepover platforms, scaffolding, and maintenance stands provide dependable access to all aircraft sections. This includes thorough access to the Nose Section (avionics and windshield), the Landing Gear, and the Wing & Engine Pylon for detailed inspections of the engine components, hydraulics, and fuel systems. Specialized systems also enable maintenance on the AFT Fuselage and Tail Section (vertical and horizontal stabilizers, rudder).
