The PZL M18B Dromader is a foundational single-engine agricultural utility aircraft, primarily known for its roles as a crop duster and firefighting machine. It is manufactured by PZL-Mielec in Poland. The company, officially Wytwornia Sprzetu Komunikacyjnego Panstwowe Zaklady LOTNICZE – MIELEC, has a storied history in Polish aviation.
The Dromader’s development began with cooperation, leading the aircraft to share parts of its structure with the Rockwell Thrush Commander. The first prototype flew in August 1976, quickly achieving certifications worldwide. Manufacturing has been ongoing since 1976, with over 759 units built. While new production was halted as of 2017, the manufacturer continues to refurbish and update existing airframes with new engines, maintaining the Dromader’s active status globally.
A variety of platforms and access solutions address maintenance needs across the aircraft structure. For work on the Nose Section (Windshield & Cockpit) and Forward Fuselage (Cabin Access, Forward Wheel Well Access), adjustable height stands or platforms provide first-class reach. Landing Gear maintenance (NLG and MLG) requires sturdy, highly specialized jacks and platforms for stable access.
The middle fuselage, encompassing the Wing Box and internal components like Fuel Tanks, requires expansive, modular staging and bridging to ensure complete coverage. Engine maintenance on the Wing & Engine Pylon—including access to the inlet, exhaust, fan, and turbine—necessitates cantilever platforms and specialized service stands to approach the radial piston engine safely and methodically. Similarly, the AFT Fuselage and Tail Section (including the Vertical and Horizontal Stabilisers) rely on specialized platforms and scaffolding for comprehensive servicing.
