The PZL M18 Dromader (meaning “Dromedary”) is a foundational single-engine agricultural aircraft, primarily used for cropdusting and firefighting. The PZL M18 A variant, built from 1984, includes an additional seat for a mechanic, and is powered by the ASz-62IR radial engine. The aircraft’s design, which first flew in 1976, was developed in cooperation with Rockwell, sharing components with the Thrush Commander. Over 759 Dromaders and their variations have been produced and sold to 24 countries.
The manufacturer, Wytwornia Sprzetu Komunikacyjnego Panstwowe Zaklady LOTNICZE – MIELEC (now known as PZL Mielec), traces its history back to the establishment of the State Aviation Works – Airframe Factory No. 2 in Mielec in 1938. The plant transitioned through various names, including Flugzeugwerk Mielec (FWM) during WWII, before becoming State Aviation Works Production Plant No. 1 in Mielec, and later the Transport Equipment Manufacturing Center (WSK). The factory started licensed production of jet fighters and utility aircraft, but in the 1970s, it developed the M18 Dromader. Since 2007, the company has been part of Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation (now a Lockheed Martin company).
A range of access platforms supports the maintenance of the PZL M18 A. Reach Deck Platform, Modular Stepover Platforms, and Ultraraise offer efficient access for general maintenance across the aircraft (AF-BF). For the Landing Gear (NLG + MLG) and Wing & Engine Pylon inspections, specialized access like the Super Service Stand and Cantilever Platform are effective. Detailed work on the Nose Section (Windshield & Cockpit) and the Wing Box Area (Fuel Tanks, Oil Maintenance) benefits from precision positioning achieved with products such as the Easyraise and Bridge Deck. Platform ladders and specialized stands are indispensable for thorough inspections across all sections, including the Tail Section (Vertical and Horizontal Stabiliser, Rudder).
