PT-13D

The PT-13D is a foundational primary trainer aircraft, part of the Stearman series which became synonymous with American military flight instruction during World War II. Known for its sturdy biplane design, the PT-13D was powered by a Lycoming R-680 engine and featured fixed landing gear. This model was essential in training thousands of aviators across the U.S. Army Air Forces and the U.S. Navy.

The manufacturer, Boeing, has a rich and expansive history in aviation. Founded in Seattle, Washington, by William E. Boeing in 1916 as the Pacific Aero Products Company, the business was renamed Boeing Airplane Company the following year. Initially focused on seaplanes, Boeing became a key player in commercial and military aviation. The Stearman aircraft lineage, which includes the PT-13D, became part of the Boeing story through the acquisition of Stearman Aircraft Company in 1934, solidifying Boeing’s position as a foundational provider of essential military and transport aircraft.
