The Pitts S-2C is a high-performance, two-seat aerobatic biplane manufactured by Aviat. Its lineage traces back to the original designs by Curtis Pitts, who began designing his renowned aerobatic biplanes in 1944. The prototype of the Pitts Special first flew in September 1944 and quickly became a global champion in aerobatic competition. The aircraft’s early versions earned the nickname “stinkers” due to a skunk logo that appeared on many models.
Aviat, the current manufacturer, continues the legacy of the Pitts Special. The S-2C model, a two-seat configuration with tandem seating, is an evolution of this famous design, built for competition aerobatics. It features an aluminum tube fuselage construction with fabric covering and is powered by a Lycoming piston engine. Its design includes advanced features like an enclosed cockpit and interlocking control sticks for enhanced safety. The S-2C is a powerful and agile machine, with specifications including a maximum takeoff weight of 1700 lbs and a service ceiling of 29,500 ft.
Specialized platforms and access solutions are necessary for maintaining and inspecting the S-2C. These products, such as Reach Deck Platforms, Modular Stepover Platforms, Super Trestle Scaffold, Ultraraise, and Super Service Stands, provide safe height access for work across all critical aircraft sections. This includes the Nose Section (radome, avionics, windshield, cockpit), Forward Fuselage (cabin access, ECS), Landing Gear, Wing Box Area (fuel tanks, oil maintenance), Wing & Engine Pylon (engine components, hydraulics), AFT Fuselage, and Tail Section.
