PITTS S-2A

The PITTS S-2A, built by Aerotek, is part of the legendary Pitts Special series of aerobatic biplanes. Designer Curtis Pitts began developing the original single-seat version in 1943-44. Due to its exceptional performance, the Pitts Special set the industry benchmark for aerobatic aircraft. In 1967, Pitts developed the two-seat S-2 trainer version.

Aerotek played a key role in the production history of the Pitts line. For example, Aerotek manufactured the S-2B variant, which featured a more powerful Lycoming AEIO-540 engine and minor structural shifts to the landing gear and upper wings. Although Aerotek’s production is no longer current, the design endures, with modern support provided by Aviat Aircraft.

Various access solutions are indispensable for the maintenance of aircraft like the PITTS S-2A. Access platforms, modular stepover platforms, and cantilever platforms help address maintenance requirements across critical aircraft sections. These include access to the Nose Section for avionics and cockpit maintenance, Landing Gear bays (NLG and MLG), and the Wing & Engine Pylon area for detailed work on the engine body and associated components. Specialized stands and step units also facilitate maintenance around the Tail Section, particularly the stabilizers and rudder, ensuring thorough inspections and maintenance across the entire airframe.
