P-8A Poseidon

The P-8A Poseidon is a military maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft developed and produced by Boeing Defense, Space & Security. This essential platform performs anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASUW), and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) roles.

The P-8A originated from the venerable Boeing 737 Next Generation commercial jetliner. The development program began in the early 2000s when the U.S. Navy sought a replacement for the aging P-3 Orion. The Navy awarded the development contract to Boeing in June 2004. The first flight occurred on April 25, 2009, leading to the aircraft’s introduction in November 2013. The design was substantially modified from its commercial base to incorporate features such as a weapons bay, under-wing hard points for weapons, and a sonobuoy deployment system.

A variety of platforms and access solutions are available for maintenance on this aircraft, assisting with thorough upkeep of the: nose section (radome, avionics, cockpit); forward fuselage (main entry door, cargo, cabin access); landing gear; middle fuselage/wing box area (wing box, fuel tanks, cabin interior); wing and engine pylon (pylon, anti-ice, engine systems); AFT fuselage (bulkhead, cargo doors, APU compartments); and tail section (vertical and horizontal stabilizers, rudder).
