P-39K

The P-39K was a variant of the Bell P-39 Airacobra, a foundational American fighter aircraft of World War II. Bell Aircraft, the manufacturer, was established in 1935 by Larry Bell in Buffalo, New York. Bell quickly became known for innovative designs, including the P-39, which introduced the revolutionary mid-engine arrangement. This configuration allowed for a large 37mm cannon to fire through the propeller hub, a unique feature. The P-39K specifically incorporated improvements over earlier models, such as a revised propeller and an upgraded engine, addressing performance issues noted at high altitudes.

Bell’s history spans significant aviation milestones, including the design and production of the first jet-powered aircraft built in the US, the P-59 Airacomet, and later transitioning to rotorcraft, becoming a leader in helicopter design.

A range of platforms and access solutions can support maintenance for aircraft like the P-39K. For the Nose Section, Modular Stepover Platforms and Platform Ladder Warthog units offer access to the Antenna, Nose Avionics, and Windshield & Cockpit. Reach Deck Platform units and Super Maintenance Platform stands are ideal for the Forward Fuselage, assisting with Cabin Access and Forward Wheel Well Access.

For the Landing Gear (NLG + MLG), the Aviation Chock and Cone Trolley is indispensable. For the Middle Fuselage / Wing Box Area, Cantilever Platform units allow access to the Wing Box and internal Fuel Tanks. Maintenance on the Wing & Engine Pylon is supported by Super Service Stand units and the A Frame Aviation Platform, allowing access to the Engine Inlet/Exhaust, Undercowl, and Hydraulics.

The AFT Fuselage and Tail Section (Empennage) require versatile access, supported by the Ultraraise and Easyraise units for the Vertical and Horizontal Stabilisers and Rear Avionics. Specialized maintenance for these areas is supported by Branach Fibreglass Platform units, while Bridge Deck units provide general access across aircraft sections.
