MU-2B-20

The MU-2B-20, known as the MU-2F in the model’s lineage, is a key variant of the Mitsubishi MU-2, a high-speed twin turboprop transport aircraft. This version featured improved engines and larger tip tanks compared to earlier models, with 95 units built. The MU-2 series is recognized as one of post-war Japan’s most successful aircraft designs, known for its distinct high wing and short fuselage.

Manufacturing of the MU-2 began under Mitsubishi, a corporation with deep roots in Japanese aviation history. The company, which evolved into Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), began its focus on aircraft design as early as 1928. Work on the MU-2, Mitsubishi’s first post-war design, started in 1956, and the prototype first flew in September 1963. Production of the entire MU-2 family ran from 1963 until 1986, with 704 total aircraft manufactured in Japan and the United States.
