MQ-9B Reaper

The MQ-9B Reaper is a remotely piloted aircraft system designed by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc., primarily for intelligence collection in support of strike, coordination, and reconnaissance missions. This uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV), powered by a Honeywell TPE331-10GD turboprop engine, evolved from the foundational MQ-1 Predator. The proof-of-concept aircraft, Predator B-001, first flew in February 2001, leading to the Reaper’s introduction into service in May 2007.

The manufacturer, General Atomics, has a long history dating back to July 1955, when it was established as the General Atomic Division of General Dynamics. Its initial purpose was research and development focused on the peaceful uses of atomic energy. Over the decades, General Atomics expanded its focus, attracting leaders in science and engineering and becoming a foundational defense contractor specializing in advanced technological systems, including the highly successful Reaper family of aircraft.

A range of platforms and access solutions are utilized to support thorough maintenance of the MQ-9B Reaper across its critical sections. These include highly adaptable access stands and elevated platforms to address maintenance needs in the Nose Section (Radome, Antenna, Avionics, and Bulkhead) and the Tail Section (Vertical and Horizontal Stabilisers). Modular platforms also facilitate access to the Wing & Engine Pylon for detailed checks on the engine body, fan, and hydraulic systems.
