The MiG-31E is a high-speed, two-seat supersonic interceptor, developed by Mikoyan (Mig/Migavia). It originated from the MiG-25 fighter, with its first flight in 1975 and serial production starting in 1979. Designed to counter low-flying supersonic aircraft and cruise missiles, the MiG-31 family was among the first to feature a phased-array radar, allowing it to track up to 10 air targets and attack four simultaneously with long-range R-33E missiles. The airframe is powered by two D-30F6 afterburning turbofans, giving it a high service ceiling of 20,600 meters.
Mikoyan, the design bureau behind the aircraft, has a foundational history in Soviet and now Russian aviation, producing numerous iconic fighter aircraft. The MiG-31 served as a crucial component of air defense for its primary users, including the Russian Aerospace Forces.
For maintenance around this aircraft, specialized access solutions are available. Platforms and stands allow for detailed work on the Nose Section (radome, avionics, cockpit) and Forward Fuselage. Stepover platforms and cantilever platforms provide access to the Middle Fuselage, Wing Box Area (including fuel tanks), and the Engine Pylons (for engine and hydraulics maintenance). Specialized stands assist in servicing the Landing Gear (NLG and MLG) and the AFT Fuselage, including APU compartments. For the Tail Section (Empennage), tall platforms ensure technicians can reach the vertical and horizontal stabilizers and rudder.
