The MiG-29SE is a modern variant of the foundational MiG-29 “Fulcrum” fighter aircraft, a Soviet-era air superiority and multirole platform. Developed by Mikoyan (now part of Mig/Migavia, known formally as Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG), the original MiG-29 was designed to counter Western fighters like the F-15 and F-16. Its first flight was in 1977, entering service around 1983, and its design combines cutting-edge aerodynamics with durable engineering, making it agile and effective in close-range combat. Production of the MiG-29 family has continued from 1981 to 2019, with over 1,600 units built. The aircraft remains in active service with numerous global air forces.
The history of the manufacturer, Mig/Migavia, is rooted in the Mikoyan design bureau. The lineage traces back to the DUX factory, established in Moscow in 1893. The first aircraft under the MiG name took its maiden flight in 1940. Mikoyan became a foundational name in the jet age, producing some of the world’s most recognizable fighter aircraft.
