The MH/AH-6M Little Bird is an agile, single-engine light military helicopter, foundational to special operations aviation. The MH-6 is used for light assault and transport, while the AH-6 serves as the attack variant. This aircraft traces its lineage back to the Hughes OH-6 Cayuse from the 1960s, later evolving through the MD 500 series. The newest MH-6M, also known as the Mission Enhanced Little Bird (MELB), is based on the MD 530F and features a six-bladed main rotor. The Little Bird was introduced in 1980 and remains an indispensable asset for precision and discretion in modern warfare.
The manufacturer, MD Helicopter, has a history dating back to 1947 as a unit of Hughes Aircraft. After producing major designs like the OH-6, the company was acquired by McDonnell Douglas in 1984, becoming McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems. Following the merger with Boeing, the helicopter unit was reformed as MD Helicopters, LLC in 1999, continuing to develop and support the aircraft line.
Access solutions provide crucial height access for maintaining the MH/AH-6M. These stands and platforms support detailed inspection across all critical sections. For the Nose Section, they enable access for radome, antenna, and avionics work, along with the windshield and cockpit. In the Forward Fuselage, they facilitate work on main entry doors, cargo areas, and lighting systems. Access systems are also vital for servicing the Main Landing Gear, as well as the Middle Fuselage for fuel tank and oil maintenance. Furthermore, specialized solutions support comprehensive servicing of the Tail Section, including the vertical and horizontal stabilizers.
