MH-60 Black Hawk

The MH-60 Black Hawk, a pivotal multi-mission military helicopter, is part of the extensive H-60 family manufactured by Sikorsky. The Black Hawk program originated in the United States Army’s Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System (UTTAS) competition, for which Sikorsky submitted its design. The prototype, designated YUH-60A, was selected in 1976 after competing against the Boeing Vertol YUH-61. Deliveries of the UH-60A began in 1978, and the helicopter entered service in 1979, quickly becoming foundational for transport, air assault, and medical evacuation across the US military and international forces.

Sikorsky, the manufacturer, was founded by Igor Sikorsky. He established his company after coming to America, leading to the creation of a pioneering aviation company known for rotorcraft innovation. Sikorsky submitted their design for the Black Hawk program in 1972, initiating the production of an aircraft series that remains active and highly adaptable for various roles, including special operations variants like the MH-60.
