L4H

The L-4H, famously nicknamed the “Grasshopper,” is a military variant of the Piper J-3 Cub, a foundational light aircraft. It played a key role during World War II, primarily used by the U.S. Army for observation, liaison, artillery spotting, and transporting personnel. The aircraft is known for its high wing, tandem seating, and gentle flying characteristics.

PIPER Aircraft, the manufacturer, traces its history to the Taylor Aircraft Company, which first flew the Cub prototype in 1930. William T. Piper formed the PIPER Aircraft Corporation in 1937 and began mass production of the J-3 Cub. The company built almost 20,000 Cubs (military and civilian), establishing itself as a leading force in general aviation.
