The JODEL DR 1050 Excellence is a low-wing, three-seat light aircraft developed from the Robin DR100. It features a wooden structure with flying surfaces covered in doped fabric and is typically powered by a 100 hp Continental O-200 engine. Production of the DR1050 occurred from 1958 to 1967, built by both Centre-Est Aeronautique (CEA) and Société Aeronautique Normande. After the manufacturer ceased operations in 1968, the aircraft continued to be available via plans.
Societe Aeronautique Normande (SAN) began operations in Bernay-Saint-Martin on May 1, 1948, founded by Lucien Querey. Initially conceived as an Aviation Service Station, the company quickly moved into aircraft manufacturing, with its first original design being the two-seater SAN-101. The company became a significant producer of the Jodel series, including the DR1050.
