The JET PROVOST T MK5A is an iteration of the foundational British jet trainer aircraft. The T5 variant, which included cockpit pressurization and the Viper 201 engine, encouraged the Royal Air Force to deploy the Jet Provost for roles beyond basic training. The aircraft’s history begins with its first flight in 1954, quickly becoming an indispensable asset for pilot instruction.
The manufacturer, British Aircraft Corporation (BAC), was established in 1960 through the amalgamation of several leading British aircraft companies, including Bristol Aeroplane Company, English Electric Aviation, Hunting Aircraft, and Vickers-Armstrongs. This consolidation made BAC a powerful force in British aerospace manufacturing, responsible for military and civil aircraft programs. BAC produced the Jet Provost series during this period, continuing the legacy of its predecessor, Hunting Aircraft. BAC later merged with Scottish Aviation and Hawker Siddeley Aviation to form British Aerospace (BAe) in 1977.
