Ilyushin Il-86

The Ilyushin Il-86 is a wide-body, four-engine commercial airliner designed by the Ilyushin design bureau in the Soviet Union. Its development was managed by Genrikh Novozhilov. The aircraft made its maiden flight on December 22, 1976, aiming for service in time for the 1980 Moscow Olympics. It officially entered service with Aeroflot in December 1980. Production spanned from 1976 to 1991, with 106 units built. The Il-86 was the first Soviet wide-body aircraft and was valued for its capacity on peak domestic routes.

Ilyushin Aviation Complex is the aircraft manufacturer and design bureau, founded by Sergey Vladimirovich Ilyushin. Established under the Soviet Union on January 13, 1933, the company has a long and foundational history in Russian aviation.

Specialized platforms and access solutions are utilized to support maintenance across this large aircraft. The Reach Deck Platform and Modular Stepover Platforms facilitate access for the Nose Section (Windshield & Cockpit, Radome, Antenna, Nose Avionics, Bulkhead) and Forward Fuselage (MED, Cargo/Baggage, Cabin Access, Forward Wheel Well Access, Lighting Systems, Environmental Control System). The Super Trestle Scaffold, Ultraraise, Super Service Stand, Easyraise, and Bridge Deck provide essential access for the Landing Gear (Nose Landing Gear and Main Landing Gear), Middle Fuselage (Wing Box, Fuel Tanks, Cabin Interior, Emergency Exit), and Wing & Engine Pylon areas. Cantilever Platforms are instrumental for reaching parts of the Wing & Engine Pylon and Tail Section (Vertical Stabiliser, Horizontal Stabiliser, Rudder). The Tail Section maintenance, including the APU Compartments, Generator, Compressor, Intake, and Exhaust Port, also benefits from these solutions.
