The IAI Westwind 1124-A is a twin-engine corporate jet, marking a key development in the Westwind series. Originally designated the Westwind I upon the introduction of the Westwind II, this reliable aircraft has solidified its niche in private and corporate aviation. The 1124 variant features two larger Garrett TFE731 turbofans and the later 1124A variant included winglets on the tip tanks for improved performance. The lineage of this aircraft dates back to the Aero Commander 500 series, with the Westwind series manufactured from 1965 to 1987, totaling 442 aircraft built.
The manufacturer, Israel Aircraft Industries, began in 1953 as the Bedek Aviation Company, established by the Ministry of Defense to maintain Israel Defense Forces aircraft. Based at Lod Airport, the company initially focused on maintenance but began manufacturing aircraft six years later, evolving into a foundational force in Israel’s aerospace industry.
A variety of platforms and access solutions are utilized for maintaining the IAI WESTWIND 1124-A. These platforms, including Reach Deck, Modular Stepover Platforms, Super Trestle Scaffold, and Ultraraise, address maintenance needs for the Nose Section (Radome, Antenna, Avionics, Windshield & Cockpit), Forward Fuselage (Main Entry Door, Cargo/Baggage, Cabin Access), and the Landing Gear (Nose Landing Gear and Main Landing Gear).
Additional access stands such as the Super Service Stand, Easyraise, and Bridge Deck support essential work on the Middle Fuselage/Wing Box Area (Fuel Tanks, Oil Maintenance, Emergency Exit), Wing & Engine Pylon (Engine Inlet/Exhaust, Fan, Compressor, Turbine, Hydraulics), and the AFT Fuselage (AFT Bulkhead, APU Compartments). Specialized access like the Branach Fibreglass Platform and A Frame Aviation Platform aid in detailed work on the Tail Section (Empennage), including the Vertical and Horizontal Stabilisers and the Rudder, ensuring methodical and safe maintenance across the entire airframe.
