The aircraft completed its maiden flight in March 2003, achieving certification in October 2004. This high-performance jet is renowned for its speed and intercontinental range, making it ideal for business transport. An increased certified gross weight in 2008 allowed for an extended maximum range.
Learjet, the foundational name in business aviation, was established in 1962 by Bill Lear. The company pioneered the twin-engine business jet market with the Model 23 in 1963. After several changes in ownership, including a period as Gates Learjet, the company was acquired by Bombardier Aerospace in 1990, becoming Bombardier Learjet. Under Bombardier, the brand continued to develop popular models. Production of Learjet aircraft ceased in 2021, marking the end of its manufacturing history in Wichita, Kansas.
