GC-1B

The GC-1B is a two-place, low-wing aircraft known for its retractable gear and all-metal construction. This model is a powerful refinement of the original Swift design, receiving its 125 HP Type Certificate in September 1946.

The aircraft’s history began in 1940 with R.S. “Pop” Johnson’s design. Manufacturing was primarily undertaken by Globe Aircraft Company, founded by John Kennedy in Fort Worth, Texas. Globe produced 408 units of the predecessor GC-1A before developing the upgraded GC-1B. After Globe closed, TEMCO obtained the rights and manufactured an additional 260 Swifts between 1947 and 1951.

The SWIFT Museum Foundation is dedicated to preserving the history of this aircraft. Specialized platforms and access solutions are utilized to support maintenance for key sections, including the Nose Section, Forward Fuselage, Landing Gear, and Tail Section. These platforms, such as the Modular Stepover Platforms and Bridge Deck, ensure access for thorough inspection and servicing across the aircraft.
