The F-28A is a foundational helicopter model from Enstrom. Production of the F-28A began around 1968 and continued until 1976, with 316 units built, making it the most produced variant in its series during that time. It is powered by an air-cooled, horizontally installed Lycoming HIO-360-C1A or HIO-360-C1B engine, delivering 205 horsepower.
Enstrom Helicopter Corporation’s history began with Rudolph “Rudy” Enstrom. After initial prototype struggles with vibration in 1943, the company moved to Menominee County airport in 1960. The new rotor design in 1961 resolved the vibration issues, leading to the first test flight of a pre-series F-28 in May 1962. The company became known for producing reliable, light helicopters.
