The EO-5 is a military variant of the De Havilland Canada DHC-7 Dash 7, a four-engine turboprop aircraft renowned for its STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) capabilities. It served the US Army, notably the EO-5C version, which was deployed for reconnaissance and surveillance, replacing the retiring Grumman OV-1D Mohawk in roles such as observing military activities. The EO-5C typically carried a crew of six, including four systems operators.
De Havilland Canada has a foundational history in aviation, established in 1928 as a subsidiary of the UK’s de Havilland Aircraft company. The manufacturer became famous for designing sturdy aircraft tailored to the rugged Canadian environment, such as the Beaver and the Otter.
