The Enhanced Medium Altitude Reconnaissance and Surveillance System (EMARSS) is a manned, multi-sensor intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platform developed for the U.S. Army. The aircraft is based on the Hawker Beechcraft King Air 350, equipped with an electro-optic/infra-red (EO/IR) sensor, communications intelligence system, and aerial precision geolocation capabilities. EMARSS is designed for low-risk, low-cost intelligence collection, capable of identifying, locating, analyzing, and tracing surface targets in various weather conditions.
The EMARSS program is led by Boeing, a foundational American aerospace company established in 1916 by William Boeing in Seattle. Over its history, Boeing evolved from manufacturing seaplanes to becoming a global force in commercial airliners, military aircraft, and defense systems. Boeing’s role in EMARSS continues this legacy of delivering specialized defense solutions, adapting commercial airframes for critical military missions.
Access and maintenance requirements for EMARSS’s many components necessitate specialized equipment. Platforms and access solutions address maintenance needs across the aircraft: Nose Section/Forward Fuselage: Equipment such as the Reach Deck Platform, Modular Stepover Platforms, and Super Service Stand provide access for servicing the Radome, Antenna, Nose Avionics, and Cockpit.
Landing Gear: Aviation Chock and Cone Trolley help secure the aircraft for work on the Nose Landing Gear and Main Landing Gear.
Middle Fuselage/Wing Box Area: The Ultraraise and Easyraise offer variable height solutions for accessing the Wing Box, Cabin Interior, and Fuel Tanks.
Wing & Engine Pylon: The Cantilever Platform and Super Maintenance Platform are used for detailed work on the Pylon, Engine (Inlet/Exhaust), and its complex systems (Hydraulics, Fuel Pumps).
AFT Fuselage/Tail Section: Modular Stepover Platforms and the Bridge Deck facilitate access to the AFT Bulkhead, APU Compartments, and components in the Tail Section like the Vertical and Horizontal Stabilizers.
General Access: Platform Ladder Warthog and A Frame Aviation Platform provide versatile access across the entire airframe. For sensitive areas, the Branach Fibreglass Platform offers non-conductive access.
