E-8C Joint STARS

The E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System, or Joint STARS, is the U.S. Air Force’s foundational airborne command, control, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C2ISR) platform. It provides battlefield commanders with real-time situational information and simultaneously transmits target locations to strike forces. Since 9/11, this total weapons system has flown over 130,000 combat hours globally, supporting military, disaster relief, and counter-drug missions.

The E-8C Joint STARS is manufactured by Northrop Grumman, a multinational aerospace and defense technology company. The aircraft itself is heavily modified from a Boeing 707-300 airframe. Northrop Grumman has provided continuous total system support responsibility for the Joint STARS fleet for over 25 years, ensuring its operational readiness.

Various platforms and access solutions are utilized to facilitate maintenance across the E-8C. For the Nose Section, Modular Stepover Platforms and Bridge Decks offer access for work on the radome, antenna, and cockpit. The Main Landing Gear requires the strong Super Trestle Scaffold for thorough maintenance. Access to the Wing & Engine Pylon areas, including the engine inlet/exhaust and fan, can be achieved using a Super Service Stand or Cantilever Platform. For General Access across the fuselage, the Reach Deck Platform provides flexibility. Maintenance on the AFT Fuselage, including APU compartments and rear avionics, benefits from high-reaching units like the Ultraraise or Easyraise. A-Frame Aviation Platforms and Platform Ladder Warthog units support specific, vertical access needs across the aircraft.
