E-7 (737 AEW&C) Wedgetail

The E-7 Wedgetail is a paramount airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) platform, derived from the Boeing 737 Next Generation airframe. Its defining feature is the multi-role electronically scanned array (MESA) radar, which provides long-range surveillance and tracking capabilities. The program began as “Project Wedgetail” for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), with the first flight occurring in 2004 and introduction in November 2012. The E-7 is also in service with the Turkish and Republic of Korea Air Forces, demonstrating its global importance for aerial command and control.

Boeing, the manufacturer, is a foundational name in global aerospace, with a history spanning over a century. Founded in 1916 by William Boeing, the company became known for commercial airliners and military aircraft. Boeing Commercial Airplanes designs the base 737, while Boeing Defense, Space & Security handles the critical modifications for the E-7’s mission systems.

Maintaining this complex aircraft requires specialized access. Various platforms and stands facilitate detailed, methodical work across all aircraft sections. For instance, cantilever platforms and sturdy trestle scaffolds are suitable for access to the Wing & Engine Pylon section, specifically for work on the engine (inlet/exhaust), pylon, and anti-ice systems. Modular stepover platforms and bridge decks provide ideal access over the fuselage for technicians working on the AFT Bulkhead, Rear Avionics, and the critical MESA radar components housed in the Tail Section. For general inspections and access to the Nose Section (Windshield & Cockpit, Nose Avionics), A-frame aviation platforms and platform ladders are indispensable.
