The E-6B Mercury is a specialized military aircraft manufactured by Boeing, serving as both a communications relay for fleet ballistic missile submarines and an airborne command post for U.S. strategic forces. It is powered by four CFM-56-2A-2 high-bypass turbofans. The Navy accepted the first E-6B aircraft in December 1997, and it assumed its dual operational mission in October 1998. The entire E-6 fleet was modified to the E-6B configuration by 2003.
Boeing, the foundational manufacturer, was established in 1916 by William Boeing in Seattle, Washington. With a history of designing and building influential commercial and military aircraft, the company is a global leader in aerospace. Its enduring legacy includes the E-6 series, which is derived from the commercial 707 airframe.
A range of platforms and access solutions are utilized for thorough maintenance on the E-6B Mercury. For the Nose Section, including the radome, antenna, and cockpit, platforms like the Reach Deck Platform, Modular Stepover Platforms, and Super Trestle Scaffold provide ideal access. These products also support detailed maintenance across the Forward Fuselage, Landing Gear (Nose and Main), Middle Fuselage/Wing Box Area, Wing & Engine Pylon components (including the turbofans, hydraulics, and fuel tanks), AFT Fuselage, and Tail Section (Empennage), ensuring all critical areas, such as the vertical and horizontal stabilizers, are reachable.
