DO 27 A4

The Dornier DO 27 A4 is a variant of the German single-engine, short takeoff and landing (STOL) utility aircraft. Known for its excellent short-field performance and comfortable, wide cabin, the DO 27 was foundational for post-war German aviation, becoming the first mass-produced aircraft in Germany after the Second World War. The A4 variant specifically represents one of the models used by military operators, such as the Belgian Army (Do 27J-1).

Dornier, the manufacturer, was established by aeronautical engineer Claudius Dornier in 1922. The company made significant contributions to aviation, particularly with seaplanes like the Dornier Wal. Following post-war restrictions on aircraft production in Germany, Dornier initially refined designs and began production in Spain, with the DO 27 prototype first flying there on June 27, 1955. Production ran from 1955 to 1965, with approximately 571 units built, serving multiple global air forces. The company was later acquired by Daimler Benz and eventually by Fairchild.

Maintaining the DO 27 A4 requires access to several key sections. Solutions like Reach Deck Platforms and Modular Stepover Platforms facilitate access for work on the Nose Section (Windshield & Cockpit, Nose Avionics), Forward Fuselage (Cabin Access, Cargo/Baggage), and the Middle Fuselage/Wing Box Area (Oil Maintenance, Cabin Interior). For accessing the classic “tail-dragger” Landing Gear, stands provide efficient positioning. Similarly, Cantilever Platforms or Bridge Decks address maintenance needs for the Tail Section (Vertical Stabiliser, Horizontal Stabiliser, Rudder).
