DHC-2 MK 1 (U-6A)

The DHC-2 MK 1 (U-6A), commonly known as the Beaver, is a foundational short takeoff and landing (STOL) utility aircraft. Developed by De Havilland Canada (DHC), the aircraft first flew in 1947, becoming renowned globally for its ability to operate reliably in rugged, remote environments. The U-6A designation refers to its role in the U.S. military. Production ceased in 1967 after 1,657 Beavers were built, cementing its legacy as one of Canada’s most important aircraft designs.

De Havilland Canada began operations in 1928 as a subsidiary of the British De Havilland Aircraft company. Located in Downsview, Toronto, DHC quickly focused on designing aircraft specifically for the challenging Canadian environment. This focus led to a series of successful STOL aircraft, including the Beaver and later the Otter and Twin Otter. The company’s innovative features include high-lift devices and sturdy construction, which proved indispensable for bush pilots and military operators worldwide.

A selection of platforms and access solutions supports detailed maintenance for this single-engine aircraft. Solutions such as Reach Deck Platforms and Modular Stepover Platforms facilitate access across the entire aircraft, including the wing, engine, and fuselage sections. The Super Service Stand and Cantilever Platform are well-suited for comprehensive inspection and maintenance tasks related to the landing gear and tail section.
