DHC-2

The DHC-2 Beaver is an iconic single-engine, high-wing aircraft, foundational to Canadian aviation. Manufactured by De Havilland, the Beaver is recognized globally as the paramount bush plane, valued for its STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) capabilities and ability to operate reliably in unforgiving, remote conditions with limited maintenance.

De Havilland Canada, the manufacturer of the DHC-2, was established in 1928 as a subsidiary of the British de Havilland Aircraft company. Following World War II, the Canadian division focused on developing aircraft specifically for the harsh Canadian wilderness, leading to the design of the DHC-2 Beaver. The Beaver’s first flight was in August 1947, and it was introduced in 1948. Production continued until 1967, with 1,657 units built. The aircraft served essential utility roles, including cargo hauling and passenger transport, and was extensively used by regional carriers and military forces, notably the United States Army. The tooling for the aircraft was later acquired by Viking Air, which continues to provide parts and support for this enduring design.
