DH-87B

The DH-87B is a variant of the de Havilland Hornet Moth, a cabin biplane designed primarily as a trainer and tourer for private buyers. Introduced in 1936, the DH-87B was an evolution of the earlier DH.87A, featuring new, squarer wings to address initial design characteristics. This modification slightly reduced the wingspan and was applied to new production aircraft starting around manufacture number 68, as well as being offered as a replacement for existing DH.87A owners. The aircraft offered side-by-side two-seat comfort within an enclosed cockpit, a relative novelty at the time. It saw limited military service, notably with the Royal Air Force during WWII as a communications aircraft.

The manufacturer, DE Havilland, has a foundational history in British aviation. The company’s origin traces back to Geoffrey de Havilland’s designs for Airco during WWI. Following the war, The de Havilland Aircraft Company Limited was officially established, commencing a highly successful series of light touring and training aircraft, beginning with the DH. 60 Moth in 1925. De Havilland became renowned for developing iconic civil and military aircraft, establishing a lasting legacy in aerospace manufacturing.

A range of specialized platforms and access solutions are utilized for the detailed maintenance of this aircraft. These solutions—including mobile platforms, trestle scaffolds, and service stands—are foundational for access needs across the aircraft. They address maintenance requirements for the Nose Section (including the windshield and cockpit), the Landing Gear (NLG and MLG), the Wing & Engine Pylon (essential for engine, propeller, and hydraulic access), and the Tail Section (Vertical and Horizontal Stabiliser/Rudder), as well as general access across the fuselage.
