CT/4A

The CT/4A Airtrainer is the foundational production variant of the CT/4 series, a two-seat primary trainer aircraft. This aircraft is powered by a 210 hp Continental piston engine. The CT/4A was built in significant numbers, serving as the primary training platform for air forces internationally, including the Royal Thai Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force.

The manufacturer, NEW Zealand Aerospace Industries Ltd (NZAI), has a concise history related to this aircraft. NZAI was established on March 1, 1973, evolving from the previous entity, AESL (Aero Engine Services Ltd). Production of the CT/4 began after the prototype first flew in February 1972. The CT/4A was the initial model produced by NZAI, with 75 units manufactured, marking a vital period for New Zealand’s aerospace manufacturing industry.
