CORSAIR F4U-1D

The CORSAIR F4U-1D is an iconic World War II-era naval fighter, foundational to its time. The airframe features distinctive inverted gull wings and was known for its paramount performance. The F4U-1D variant was particularly recognized for its increased power and ability to carry bombs and rockets, making it a versatile carrier-based fighter.

Chance Vought, the manufacturer, began the development of the F4U in 1938 for the US Marine Corps. The first prototype, the XF4U-1, flew on May 29, 1940, and the aircraft entered production in 1942.

Various access and maintenance stands are used for thorough support of this aircraft. Cantilever and bridge decks enable access to the Wing & Engine Pylon section for detailed maintenance on areas like the engine body, fan, and turbine, as well as accessing fuel tanks and hydraulics. Stepover platforms and trestle scaffold are often deployed for general access to the Forward Fuselage, including the windshield and cockpit, and the AFT Fuselage. Modular platforms and maintenance stands provide sturdy access for work on the Tail Section (Empennage), specifically the vertical and horizontal stabilizers.
