CLA 7 SWIFT

The Comper C.L.A. 7 Swift is a British single-seat sporting aircraft, representing the first aircraft designed and produced by the Comper Aircraft Company.

The prototype Swift (registered G-AARX) conducted its maiden flight in January 1930 at Hooton Park, initially powered by a 40 hp ABC Scorpion piston engine. Following successful testing, production continued, with subsequent aircraft often featuring a 50 hp Salmson A.D. 9 radial engine. The Swift quickly gained recognition in air racing; a Gipsy Swift, owned by the then-Prince of Wales, secured second place in the 1932 King’s Cup Race. This aircraft was also known for long-distance flights, such as Arthur Butler’s nine-day flight of G-ABRE to Australia in 1931. The Swift remained visible in British air races through the mid-1950s.

Comper Aircraft Company was the manufacturer of this light aircraft. They were a British company focused on producing sporting aircraft.
