CA-8

The CA-8 Wackett Trainer is an indigenous Australian military training aircraft, foundational to the nation’s wartime aviation capability. Designed and manufactured by Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC), the CA-8 was a two-seat, low-wing monoplane intended to provide advanced training for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). It first flew in 1939 and served throughout World War II.

Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation was established in 1936 to create an independent aircraft industry in Australia. CAC was a consortium of major Australian companies, dedicated to producing military aircraft domestically, beginning with the NA-16 (Wirraway) and followed by the Wackett Trainer. This history is key to Australian self-sufficiency in aerospace manufacturing.

A range of platforms and access solutions support methodical maintenance around the CA-8. These access solutions, including the Reach Deck Platform, Modular Stepover Platforms, Super Trestle Scaffold, Ultraraise, and Super Service Stand, facilitate detailed work across all critical aircraft sections. This includes the Nose Section (Windshield & Cockpit, Bulkhead), Landing Gear (NLG and MLG), and the Wing Box Area. Access products are also utilized for the Tail Section (Vertical Stabiliser, Horizontal Stabiliser, Rudder), ensuring thorough inspection and service.
